[00:00:00] This is a Sandy Boy Productions podcast
Jeanette Ray: I can't do the race without crying either. Well- But it's, like, tears of, like, I know he's proud of, of me. Ugh,
Ally Brettnacher: Welcome to Finish Lines and Milestones, a podcast for everyday runners. I am your host, Ally Brettnacher, and if you run, you're a runner, and every runner has a story. Join me each week as I share these stories and we celebrate finish lines and milestones together.
This episode is brought to you by Sweathouse Contrast Therapy Studios and Killa. More on them in a minute, but for today's episode. If you're local to central Indiana, you may know Jeanette Ray as the owner of the local sweat houses around town. It is certainly one of the fastest-growing wellness brands in the area. She started it after losing 120 pounds, actually more than 120 pounds. She turned grief over her dad's glioblastoma diagnosis into a reason to run one of our local races, the Indy Mini, in his honor every single year.
So we talk all [00:01:00] about Jeannette's weight loss journey and how a layoff turned her entire life upside down and turned her onto this path of entrepreneurship and wellness. We'll talk, of course, about contrast therapy, what it is, why you should try it.
There's a discount code for you in this episode. And we also talk about her upcoming High Rocks debut. I'm super curious about that, enjoy this conversation with Jeannette
Welcome, Jeanette. We're here.
Jeanette Ray: We're here. We're here. Yeah, you can call me Jeanette, J Ray.
Ally Brettnacher: J Ray, I like. Do a lot of people call you that?
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: That's cool.
Jeanette Ray: It's easy for, like, Starbucks and...
Ally Brettnacher: Right. It's, it's hard to mess that up.
Jeanette Ray: People say, you know, "Oh, what's your name? Can I put your name on this?" I'm like, "J Ray."
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. Just put J Ray- Yeah ... 'cause if I say my name, you're gonna-
Jeanette Ray: Mess it up.
Ally Brettnacher: You're gonna mess it up somehow.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. Oh my gosh, I'm so excited we get to know each other better today.
Jeanette Ray: I am, too. You're the- Thank you for reaching out to me.
Ally Brettnacher: Absolutely.
Jeanette Ray: Gosh, what? April?
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah, I don't even know when that was.
March? Like, just randomly, too.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. '
Ally Brettnacher: Cause I was thinking, I was preparing [00:02:00] for this event that I hosted with Lindsay Heim- Mm-hmm ... for the Indie Mini, and we were looking for sponsors. And I'm like, "Oh, my gosh. Yeah, Sweat House would be so cool." Yeah. So then I Googled and I found you, and I just sent you a DM, and you were kind enough to respond and work with us.
Yeah. And now we're friends.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: And in the Dunk Club.
Jeanette Ray: And in the Dunk Club, the Indie Dunk Club.
Ally Brettnacher: The Indie Dunk
Jeanette Ray: Club. We need to get it going around.
Ally Brettnacher: Gotta get, like, a, a, you know, like, a bulletin board or something in the studio-
Jeanette Ray: Of
Ally Brettnacher: like- Where it's like... And it, and you can... It has to be posted on the internet for it to be, like, an official dunk.
Jeanette Ray: Yes. Okay. I love that
Ally Brettnacher: idea. Duly noted. Love that idea. Or, like, the Sweat House necklace that you have on. We'll just do Dunk Club. Dunk. People will be like, "What the hell is that?"
Jeanette Ray: Okay.
Ally Brettnacher: Yes. So let's just talk about Sweat House right out of the gate- Right ... 'cause that's how we know each other.
Jeanette Ray: Yes.
Ally Brettnacher: And tell people, yeah, how, how you got it.
We'll go the whole backstory, too.
Jeanette Ray: Let's go back to 2019. I decided... I was in the hospitality industry, driving everywhere, going to all these hotels. I needed to lose weight, [00:03:00] so I started losing weight, so that's where it all started, losing weight, needing to get healthy for myself, and then COVID happened.
Yeah. And that kinda messed everything up, uh, so I thought.
Ally Brettnacher: Right.
Jeanette Ray: So I
Ally Brettnacher: thought. No, it really didn't. It made your life so great eventually.
Jeanette Ray: It, it was a turning point- Yeah ... and has changed my life forever.
Ally Brettnacher: Same.
Jeanette Ray: But, uh, my hus- I called my husband and I said, "I lost my job," crying, sobbing. And he said, "Were you in a car accident?
Are you okay?" And I said, "Yeah," you know. "No, I wasn't in a car accident." Yes, I am okay. And he said, "Well then, whatever you're gonna tell me is fine. We'll get through it."
Ally Brettnacher: Aw, that's-
Jeanette Ray: And, uh, so I lost my job. So then, you know, I'm like- So you were... You,
Ally Brettnacher: you... Yeah, you were let go-
Jeanette Ray: Let go ... because
Ally Brettnacher: of the
Jeanette Ray: pandemic.
Because of the pandemic. Because I did, uh, I traveled for the business that I worked for, um, and that was no longer needed. I didn't need to give training to-
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah, in person to people.
Jeanette Ray: There were no employees at the hotels. Geez. [00:04:00] Um, so, so that started. So I continued the health journey. I got my personal trainer's license.
Ally Brettnacher: So wait, back to getting let go during COVID.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: When COVID was, like, starting to happen and you could see it coming, did you ever think like, "Oh, this is gonna, this is gonna cost me my job," or was it- No ... 'cause
Jeanette Ray: it- Because I called myself a lifer. Oh. And I was like, "I'm never leaving this job. I love it. I love what I do."
Yeah. "I love working with the people. I love training them on how to give everyone what they need and want while they're staying at the hotels." Mm. Um, and so I really never thought that I would leave.
Ally Brettnacher: Ugh.
Jeanette Ray: But I got walked into the office and-
Ally Brettnacher: And at that point, were you like, "Oh, this is not..." Or were you just like, "Oh, they're gonna-" I
Jeanette Ray: just thought it was a meeting.
Ally Brettnacher: Oh my God.
Jeanette Ray: My boss was there, and then her boss, and, uh, my boss starts crying.
Ally Brettnacher: Oh, shoot.
Jeanette Ray: So then I kind of figured something was going on. Oh. Um, but what I am [00:05:00] proud of myself is I told them, "If you let me go, I will never come back. Are you sure you wanna let me go?"
Ally Brettnacher: Good for you.
Jeanette Ray: And sure enough, like two, three months down the road, they're calling, asking me to come back, and I'm like-
Ally Brettnacher: I told you and I meant it.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: That says a lot about you.
Jeanette Ray: I just... I was like, "If you don't believe in me," or, you know, find some- If you can't
Ally Brettnacher: find... I mean, you worked for, what, Marriott or s-
Jeanette Ray: Uh, well, it was, it was a company out of Indianapolis that owns Marriott, IHG, and Hilton hotels. Okay. So throughout the Midwest.
Ally Brettnacher: Got
Jeanette Ray: it. So at that point, it was probably about 37, 40 hotels.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: So I would travel to them and do customer service- I see what you mean. Okay ... and make sure that all the employees were up to date on their Hilton or their Marriott training.
Ally Brettnacher: And so at that time, before you lost weight, tell us a little bit about how you were feeling in your body at that time. Ugh.
Like...
Jeanette Ray: I loved my life, just not how I was physically. [00:06:00] I grew up playing sports- Oh, yeah, yeah ... and so I was always very active. And so I think I was to a point where... You know, you get to a point where you're in your career and you're loving what you're doing, but then you go home and you're just exhausted and you're tired and you're kind of miserable.
So I had gotten to that point, and I told Leonard- I s- I got this thing in the mail. It was, um, it's called Ideal Protein.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: Look it up. I don't know if I suggest it for everyone to do the weight loss, but it was through my OBGYN, so every week I was getting checked, you know.
Ally Brettnacher: Wow.
Jeanette Ray: Weighed in, checked. I would get my food, take it home, you know.
Ally Brettnacher: Wow.
Jeanette Ray: It was, it was s- kind of crazy. Yeah. But I don't know if I'd recommend it, um, 'cause I couldn't work out because of the calorie deficit that I was in. Uh, so- Okay,
Ally Brettnacher: so it was pure f- like, food-
Jeanette Ray: Eating ...
Ally Brettnacher: at the beginning.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. Yeah. Which it really taught me how to eat.
Ally Brettnacher: Yes.
Jeanette Ray: Which I take that away from [00:07:00] it, but I don't...
Now, now I look at it and I'm like, "There's no way I could do that," because I'm so active. Right. I work out so much.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Um, so it, it wouldn't work for me now, but it worked for me then. Then,
Ally Brettnacher: yeah. I think that's important, 'cause people will be like, "Oh my gosh, you lost this much weight?" Yeah. "
Jeanette Ray: I should
Ally Brettnacher: do that."
Jeanette Ray: Well, and people tell me- Yeah ... they're like, "Oh my gosh, I wanna do what you did," and I'm like, one, you really have to want yourself, not, you know, because I did it. You have to want it for yourself. People say, "Oh my gosh, I saw your, you know, Instagram post that, you know, this before and after picture."
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: But you have to do it.
'Cause it's not a week, you know? You've gotta... It's, it's about a year process of, of losing and watching how you
Ally Brettnacher: eat. Right. And you were married at the time, I'm assuming- Yeah ... to Leonard. And so how was that? Because I know- ... my husband's the worst eater. Like, he- I- Ugh. So I couldn't. It'd be hard.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. Well, I would make him food, and I would make me [00:08:00] food.
Ally Brettnacher: Oh my gosh.
Jeanette Ray: So-
Ally Brettnacher: You're a saint.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. But that, I mean, it worked.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: You know? Um, it worked and, and he was proud of me and what I was doing. And, uh, so, you know, it just kinda worked out. It sounds weird now 'cause I'm like, oh my gosh, I was making
Ally Brettnacher: two meals. Two meals. Well, I do that for my kids sometimes.
Jeanette Ray: But, you know- So it's not crazy
Ally Brettnacher: yeah. Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: So, but it worked.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. Dang. And so at the end of the day, you've lost
Jeanette Ray: how much? Over 120 pounds.
Ally Brettnacher: That's crazy.
Jeanette Ray: But I still fluctuate.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: You know, there's no, um... I think probably about three or four years ago, I gained some of it back. I'm like, "What am I doing? I'm eating the same way. I'm working out the same way."
But what it ended up, it was, like, hormones.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. I, you know, the- So. Yeah. We could go down a whole rabbit hole about that.
Jeanette Ray: I know. I
Ally Brettnacher: know. Yeah. It's like you just feel like no matter what- I'm like, "What did I do?" ... just crazy stuff happens. Yeah. And you're like, "How? What in the world?"
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. So I went and got that checked out.
Ally Brettnacher: That was good, yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Um, so that helped me, so now I'm on hormo- like, [00:09:00] hormone replacement-
Ally Brettnacher: Yep ...
Jeanette Ray: um, which is not bad.
Ally Brettnacher: My mom, my mom d- was, like, an early adopter of it-
Jeanette Ray: Oh, really? ...
Ally Brettnacher: when it was not, like, when people were like, "Don't do that." I
Jeanette Ray: wish I would've known.
Ally Brettnacher: She... Right, yeah. I've not gone down that path yet. My hormones at this moment, knock on wood, are-
Jeanette Ray: Good
Ally Brettnacher: in a normal range. Yeah. But there's other things wrong with me, so it's fine. Yeah. But...
Jeanette Ray: I feel like us as women, we kinda like- think, "Oh, there's nothing we can do."
Ally Brettnacher: Right.
Jeanette Ray: You know?
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: But there is so much we can do.
Ally Brettnacher: I, I am so hopeful for my, my daughters- Yeah ... that, like, by the time they're my age that there will be a lot more research and understanding- Yeah
in, in women's health in general. And
Jeanette Ray: comfort in the acceptance of replacement hormones- Right ... or whatever it is they need. Or whatever
Ally Brettnacher: it is that helps you have a better life.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. Who...
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. Anyway.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. I'm not ashamed- Yeah ... to say,
Ally Brettnacher: like Yeah, we could go on and on.
Jeanette Ray: Right?
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. So, um, okay, 120... More than 120 pounds.
Yeah,
Jeanette Ray: yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: So what was the period of time that it took you to then, like, get off enough [00:10:00] weight to where then you started getting into the fitness side?
Jeanette Ray: Probably about six months in I started- Okay ... to walk.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: And I would just... We live downtown, so Mass Ave.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: I would go over to Mass Ave and walk up and down Mass Ave.
So that's really what it was until I could get back to eating carbs and stuff-
Ally Brettnacher: Right ...
Jeanette Ray: which was at nine months.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: Um-
Ally Brettnacher: That's a long time.
Jeanette Ray: It is.
Ally Brettnacher: You're amazing.
Jeanette Ray: By that time, though, we had almost gotten into COVID.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: So then you gotta think the gyms are closed.
Ally Brettnacher: Ugh. Okay. Yeah. I forgot to ask you the year this started.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. So it was- Because
Ally Brettnacher: in my brain I went back to the
Jeanette Ray: 2019. It was February. Okay. It was February of
Ally Brettnacher: 2019. But
Jeanette Ray: yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: That is such a short amount of ti- It feels like a short amount of time, but also a really long amount of time.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah, yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: If that makes sense. Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. It's crazy to think, uh... And that's not normal, like, losing that much weight in that time, so I don't-
Ally Brettnacher: Right.
Again- You know? ... this is not a magic bullet, like-
Jeanette Ray: No.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. No. I mean, but that level of discipline...
Jeanette Ray: But you [00:11:00] kinda... Once you get to that nine month, then you start to bring, uh, carbs and sugars back in.
Ally Brettnacher: Mm.
Jeanette Ray: Um, and so when I did that, then I was able to start running So I would run down Mass Ave and back, and that would be my workout for the day.
But I would have to watch my heart rate-
Ally Brettnacher: Mm ...
Jeanette Ray: because I still wasn't eating tons of calories.
Ally Brettnacher: Right.
Jeanette Ray: Um, I was gradually building, but I kinda had to watch where I was, and I may run and then have to walk because I could see where my heart rate was getting up- Mm-hmm ... and-
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. It's hard to have that level of patience, I'm sure.
Jeanette Ray: Well, and then starting the whole COVID-
Ally Brettnacher: Ugh ...
Jeanette Ray: and not being... Like, that's all I had was walking and running.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Because we lived in an apartment, and- Mm ... the gym was closed. Yeah. So it wasn't like I had anything, you know.
Ally Brettnacher: That's so hard.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. At least it hit in [00:12:00] spring and summer where you could be outside- Could be outside, yeah
and not be mi- as miserable. And
Jeanette Ray: it was amazing, though, because Mass Ave was closed.
Ally Brettnacher: At the moment you lost your job, like-
Jeanette Ray: I went home and ran.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay, good. Yeah. I just feel like that's such a moment of, like-
Jeanette Ray: Yeah ...
Ally Brettnacher: how do you react in that moment? I mean-
Jeanette Ray: Go home, eat, cry-
Ally Brettnacher: Right, I know ... drink, get dressed ... like, get ice cream and, like-
Jeanette Ray: Yeah
Ally Brettnacher: cry on the t- couch
Jeanette Ray: and- And all I could think about was going home and running ... running ... to, like, get out of my head.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: And that's kinda... When I run is kinda clarity-
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah ...
Jeanette Ray: for me.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: And, uh, so that, that was all I could think of doing.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay. So when you were a kid and you were really active-
Jeanette Ray: Mm-hmm ...
Ally Brettnacher: like, where did the weight come from?
Jeanette Ray: I feel like it came from eating, but I, I feel like when you're in middle school and high school and you're playing sports-
Ally Brettnacher: Mm-hmm ...
Jeanette Ray: you're so active, plus, like, your, your body just kinda, like, meta- like- Right ... everything goes You can eat whatever you want. It doesn't matter ... you can eat whatever you want. Yeah.
Like, I could eat Taco Bell, McDonald's. But then, you know, going into [00:13:00] college and, you know, getting older and not being as active as I was- Mm-hmm ... I just, you know, ate. Then, you know, meeting Leonard, and we would go out to dinner and do this- Mm ... and do that.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Um, and so, you know, I think it just kinda, like, grew over the years.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: And I've always been, like, a real happy person. You, you get to a point and you're like, "I just can't do anything. Like, I can't run, I can't walk."
Ally Brettnacher: Well, and you traveled for your job. Did you mostly drive?
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. 'Cause they were all within, like, three hours.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay. So you're not, like, on a plane miserable-
Jeanette Ray: No
Ally Brettnacher: 'cause that would be-
Jeanette Ray: No ...
Ally Brettnacher: really hard.
Jeanette Ray: Drive.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: And then eating out, 'cause,
Ally Brettnacher: you know- Right, 'cause you're on the road. Yeah. And there's not a ton of great options. Yeah. Still, like, not a ton.
Jeanette Ray: No.
Ally Brettnacher: It's getting better.
Jeanette Ray: And I would do training throughout the day, so it was like, what could I Uber Eats to myself?
Yeah. You know.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: McDonald's or, you know- Mm-hmm ... any kinda, any fast food or, you know. Nothing was ever healthy.
Ally Brettnacher: Right. Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: But then I, but when I started this weight loss, I was [00:14:00] fixing food at home to take with me on the road. And then I was making sure that where I was staying, I was being very strategic in, like, what hotels I would spend the night at because I wanted to make sure they had a refrigerator- Yeah
in the room so I could put my stuff in there. But I'm like, "Why wasn't I doing this, you know, the whole time?"
Ally Brettnacher: Well, of course you can say that now- But- ... for sure. Yeah. But yeah, it just, 'cause you just, it catches up with you. Yeah. You're focused on so many other things and then all of a sudden, yeah, you lose sight of that.
And then all of a sudden you're like, "Well, I'm really happy, but shoot."
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Like what the heck happened?
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah, where did you go to college?
Jeanette Ray: Uh, I went to one year of, uh, USI-
Ally Brettnacher: Okay ...
Jeanette Ray: down in Evansville.
Ally Brettnacher: Is that the S- the, uh,
Jeanette Ray: Screaming Eagles? University of Southern... Yes.
Ally Brettnacher: My husband got his master- Okay ... his MBA
Jeanette Ray: there.
Yeah, yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: And my friend went there, actually.
Jeanette Ray: So I went there for one year.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: There were maybe three people from my high school that went there. I had a great roommate. This is another crazy story. We lived in, um, they were apartments, but they were two rooms, so two girls in each room [00:15:00] and then we shared a kitchen.
And we were with some upperclassmen, and one of our roommates, um, turned 21, went out, came back home. A friend brought her home, and she decided she needed to go to the gas station. And she left in the middle of the night, or early morning, I don't even know, and went to the gas station, and on her way back pulled out in front of a semi on the Lloyd Expressway and killed her, or it killed her.
Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Whoa.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. And so like I, we continued that year
Ally Brettnacher: Shesh. How did you meet her as a roommate? Was it-
Jeanette Ray: It was random ... random.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay
Jeanette Ray: Random. She was from Jasper, Indiana, which is where my great-grandma and my, um, grandparents on my mom's side were from. Yeah. So I thought that was cool.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah, Southern Indiana- Yeah
for anybody who doesn't know.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: So yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: How, how long into this w- It was- And it was your first y- your first [00:16:00] year of college?
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Jesus.
Jeanette Ray: We had the opportunity, they have a freshman dorm-
Ally Brettnacher: Okay ...
Jeanette Ray: but there weren't enough rooms for all the freshmen.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: And so we opted to live in the apartments.
Ally Brettnacher: Right. Heck yeah You know? That sounds amazing. So,
Jeanette Ray: yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: When you wake up in the morning-
Jeanette Ray: Uh, woke up to a Indiana State policeman- ... or trooper or something-
Ally Brettnacher: Oh, God, okay.
Jeanette Ray: That makes sense ... coming to the door because our address was on-
Ally Brettnacher: Her license ... her
Jeanette Ray: license.
Ally Brettnacher: Oh my God.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. I don't even know what to say. I mean-
Ally Brettnacher: Right.
I mean- Oh, man ...
Jeanette Ray: it was, it was, uh, another, like, pivotal moment of thinking, you know, you're never gonna drive while you're drinking or, you know.
Ally Brettnacher: You know, you know, obviously you don't- Lesson
Jeanette Ray: learned ...
Ally Brettnacher: wish that on anyone, anybody. No,
Jeanette Ray: no.
Ally Brettnacher: But, like, wow.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: At that age to be able to learn that lesson- Yeah ... and be like, "Well, okay."
Jeanette Ray: 'Cause I hadn't really, I never really drank in high school.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: You know? [00:17:00] So I-
Ally Brettnacher: Wow. It was crazy. That's nuts, Jeannette. Yeah. That is crazy. I can't, I'm just thinking like, gosh, then her family had to come clean out all her stuff and-
Jeanette Ray: Mm-hmm. I don't even remember that.
Ally Brettnacher: That's gotta be- Honestly ... anyway, yeah.
That's, that's wild. Yeah. I'm sorry that happened. That's insane. Well- So is that why you left USI to go somewhere else? Um,
Jeanette Ray: no, let's be honest. Uh, I do not like school. Uh, maybe I didn't get the grades that I was supposed to get. Oh. And so, um, that was just one year of-
Ally Brettnacher: And
Jeanette Ray: that was it ... that was it. Then, so I came back.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: Um, my parents had a printing company, did all kinds of printing for Perry Township, local, uh, Center Grove, Disciples of Chr- like, all kinds of different cool things- Like large format- In any, yeah ...
Ally Brettnacher: signs and-
Jeanette Ray: Like the Polar Bear, uh, Run-
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah ...
Jeanette Ray: that used to be at UIndy.
Ally Brettnacher: Uh-huh.
Jeanette Ray: Like, they would do, um, what was it?
[00:18:00] KLA, Kinney Long-
Ally Brettnacher: Okay ...
Jeanette Ray: and Associate- Yeah, yeah, yeah ... I mean, this was a long time ago. Yeah. But, um, so they did all their, like, registration forms and all that stuff. That's cool. Um, but came back and started working with them. That was kinda like, "You're moving home. You're gonna start working- Wow ... at the shop."
And all I could think about was, you know, I wanna work. I wanna be, uh, like, that person in the front that everybody says hi to.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: So, like, administrative assistant- Mm-hmm ... or... So I went to Indiana Business College, which is no more.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay. Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: But it was downtown. Um, and I went and I got my associate's degree from them.
Ally Brettnacher: Wow. How was your relationship with your parents at that point? Like, were you pissed to come home? Or were you like, "No, that makes sense"?
Jeanette Ray: No, it made sense.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: When I went to college, you needed to know what you were gonna do. You were supposed to know.
Ally Brettnacher: Which is insane to me.
Jeanette Ray: I think now they want you to, but it's more, you know, there's room to grow into what you wanna do.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: But before, I felt like you [00:19:00] needed to go to school, and you needed to know what you wanted to do.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: And I didn't know what I wanted to do. I still don't know what I wanna do. Me
Ally Brettnacher: either. I still don't know what I'm doing- ... like, for God's sakes. I
Jeanette Ray: know.
Ally Brettnacher: It's, it's, it is really interesting how that shift has ha- I'm glad that it's happened.
Yeah,
Jeanette Ray: yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: But yeah, I mean, how in the world was I supposed to know?
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: And I always envied people who were like, "I'm gonna be a doctor." And then they went- Yeah, and they would- ... and became a doctor. Right. And you're like, "Oh, well, that's cool. I have no idea."
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. Yeah, I had no idea. I kinda had this idea that I wanted to be the person in front, um, that would greet you and, you know, make you comfortable- Mm-hmm
like, coming into whatever situation it was.
Ally Brettnacher: Mm-hmm. Did you have siblings?
Jeanette Ray: I have a brother.
Ally Brettnacher: You have a brother, okay.
Jeanette Ray: And he is, I love you, Eric, but he is, like, the biggest nerd. I love nerds. So he probably got- It's great to be nerdy ... all the smarts- Yeah ... and all the, like, technical smart- what I would call, like, technical smart.
Ally Brettnacher: Mm-hmm.
Jeanette Ray: I got all the common sense.
Ally Brettnacher: Oh.
Jeanette Ray: So I feel like- Which
Ally Brettnacher: one would you ra- It's a tough one. Common
Jeanette Ray: sense.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah, common sense is nice to have. No offense.
Jeanette Ray: Sorry, Eric. Yeah,
Ally Brettnacher: I don't know [00:20:00] him, but yeah. I g- I- He's a great guy ... understand
Jeanette Ray: what you're saying. But, but it's just like, you know-
Ally Brettnacher: Is he older or younger than you?
Jeanette Ray: He's younger. I was- He's seven years younger than me.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay. So you're allowed to say, it's- Yeah, I'm
Jeanette Ray: allowed to say
Ally Brettnacher: it ... it makes more sense. Yeah, yeah. It makes sense, eldest daughter.
Jeanette Ray: Which he has, he went to Purdue.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: You know- Yeah ... engineer. He's a mechanical engineer. Ooh. He works for a big company in Boston.
Super smart, yeah. Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Very smart, and, you know, that's great.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. So you got the common sense. Yeah. And you're working for your mom and dad's print shop.
Jeanette Ray: Yep.
Ally Brettnacher: So how long did you end up there?
Jeanette Ray: I worked there- I wanna say until 2008.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: I think it was about 2008.
Ally Brettnacher: And is that when you ended up getting into the hospitality stuff?
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: And then that... Were you at the same company your entire hospitality- Mm-hmm ...
Jeanette Ray: career? Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: That is nuts. Yeah. That's a long time. What a lo- over a decade.
Jeanette Ray: Ye- uh, well, okay, let's see. I, 'cause I worked for them for 10 years, so it would've been-
Ally Brettnacher: Okay, just about it. Yeah. I mean, still- 2009 ... that's crazy.
Jeanette Ray: 2010.
Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Well, it puts into perspective what you shared about losing your job. Like you've- Yeah ... been there, that's like- Yeah ... [00:21:00] all you've ever known outside of your family business.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. Well, and I was so scared to leave- Yeah ... the family business, even though I knew I needed to. Um, but the family business, also, this is another random little fun fact about me.
I met Leonard because he worked for International Papers, uh, which is a paper company. He worked at RV Paper, which is like a little-
Ally Brettnacher: Stop it ...
Jeanette Ray: small business from the International Paper company. But he would carry my paper to my car. My dad would call in the order- Oh ... and I would go get the paper, and he would bring it to my car.
Ally Brettnacher: So yeah. That's so awesome.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: I love that story.
Jeanette Ray: And so probably like three or four months of that in- You
Ally Brettnacher: would like eventually like chat a little bit more each time- Mm-hmm ...
Jeanette Ray: and- And then he asked my dad if he could take me to lunch.
Ally Brettnacher: That's so cute.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. He also asked his regional what he- Wow ... thought, because we, [00:22:00] my parents- Well-
were such a big company-
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah, he, he didn't wanna- ... to them ... Smart.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. And they, and they were like, "Yeah, it's fine."
Jeanette Ray: No, they said no. Yeah. The regional was like, "No, 'cause you can't lose this business that you have." So
Ally Brettnacher: then did he not?
Jeanette Ray: No, he did.
Ally Brettnacher: That's great. Good job, Leonard.
Jeanette Ray: He was like, "I appreciate it, but I think I'm gonna risk it."
Ally Brettnacher: Wow.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: And it worked out.
Jeanette Ray: And it worked out.
Ally Brettnacher: So what prompted you to leave the family business then?
Jeanette Ray: I just wanted to, like, not see my parents every day.
Ally Brettnacher: Sounds fair.
Jeanette Ray: I love them.
Ally Brettnacher: Love my parents. Sorry, Mom.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. Yeah, I mean- I love my parents ...
Ally Brettnacher: but it's a lot.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. It
Ally Brettnacher: would be a lot.
Jeanette Ray: It was a lot, and it was hard to, especially with Leonard, you know, being the supplier of the paper, every conversation was around work.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: And I just couldn't do it.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah, that makes sense. It
Jeanette Ray: was a lot.
Ally Brettnacher: That
Jeanette Ray: makes complete sense. So we got married. I think I worked there for, like, a year or two more, um, [00:23:00] and then I... And you know, how do you go to interviews w- for the business? You know.
Ally Brettnacher: Right. Did you just have to tell your, "Hey, I'm gonna start looking for a job"?
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. Yeah. So I, I- That makes sense. I mean, how could you? ... initially said I'm gonna look for, like, a part-time job.
Ally Brettnacher: To kinda ease them into it maybe?
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. Yeah. And then knowing that it wasn't gonna be part-time, like, knowing that I was looking for- Yeah, yeah ... a full-time job.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: And then I just stumbled upon this, and, uh, I think I had, like, two or three interviews, and that's how it all started.
Ally Brettnacher: Wow. And so back to the running part of your life. So you did sports, and then you really weren't active at this point. Did you ever do, like, the mini or anything? When did that start- I walked- ... for your family? I
Jeanette Ray: would walk the mini. So my dad started probably the first or second mini that had ever happened- Yeah
when they would finish at the track.
Ally Brettnacher: So cool.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. And I, like, and it was always during school-
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah, 'cause
Jeanette Ray: it was on Fridays ... 'cause it was on Fridays.
Ally Brettnacher: Which is weird to think about.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: And so I would, [00:24:00] like, they would leave before I'd go to school. You know- Wow ... we'd kind of be on our own that day. And, uh, so that's how he would start- You were exposed to that then
doing that. Yeah. Yeah. And then, um, when I went to school, like, that's when I started, when I went to college, that's when I started doing them. And so we would walk. I'd walk with my mom and my aunt.
Ally Brettnacher: Wow.
Jeanette Ray: And so we would do that. And then, um, when my dad got sick, he, we would walk the 5K that had just kinda started 'cause it wasn't always- Yeah
they didn't always have the o- Right ... other options. Right. So he would run the mini, and then he got sick, and so we walked a few. And then- Now we do it in his honor
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. That's so... I, which I learned that when I really first met you-
Jeanette Ray: Yeah ...
Ally Brettnacher: at the Mini event. Yeah. Yeah. We were chatting and- I- ... you're like, "Yeah, I'm doing the race for my, in honor of my dad."
Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: I can't do the race without crying either. Well- But it's, like, tears of, like, I know he's proud of, of me. [00:25:00] Ugh,
Ally Brettnacher: yeah.
Jeanette Ray: And then I FaceTime my mom when I do the finish line.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay, well,
Jeanette Ray: don't- And that's a hot mess ... don't make
Ally Brettnacher: me cry.
Jeanette Ray: That's a hot mess express. You're gonna make me cry. I did it, and I can't breathe.
I did it again. You know?
Ally Brettnacher: You're gonna... Yeah, you're, like, gonna make me cry. Um, wow. Yeah, that's really special.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: So we did a few years, and we did it with glioblastoma, and we raised a whole bunch of money.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Um, and that, we all had shirts and, you know. Uh, my dad has a friend that he ran with, Carla, and she has ran, I think this year was her 40th.
And that's it. She's done.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: Um, but yeah. She ran all of them- Oh, so she started getting... Okay ... with my dad.
Ally Brettnacher: That's so cool.
Jeanette Ray: And, uh, they would train together, which, uh, they really, I mean My dad was so busy with the business, and so it wasn't that easy to train. So sometimes his training was really nothing.
Ally Brettnacher: Right.
Jeanette Ray: You know? Not like today. I feel like today people are very, you know, you have a app or you have-
Ally Brettnacher: Right ...
Jeanette Ray: ways to train.
Ally Brettnacher: [00:26:00] Yeah, right. Then people didn't know what they know now, too. Yeah. Yeah. That's wild. So he would just
Jeanette Ray: go and
Ally Brettnacher: do it. I feel like that's what my parents kinda... Well, my mom probably always trained for it when she did it, but my dad probably didn't sometimes, 'cause they had a business too.
Yeah, okay. They had a business, yeah.
Jeanette Ray: What did you, what was that?
Ally Brettnacher: Software company.
Jeanette Ray: Oh, wow.
Ally Brettnacher: Mm-hmm. Okay. So I worked at the front de- Yeah ... so we, you know, there's some-
Jeanette Ray: Yeah, I didn't know this.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Okay.
Ally Brettnacher: Fun fact about me. Yeah. Yeah. So I r- I mean, relate to some of that, 'cause you're like... I know I always thought that I would either...
I was the only one of my, actually I can't remember if my other sisters ever worked there. But I was the only one that worked there,
Jeanette Ray: I think. Oh, real- yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Maybe my sister worked there summer.
Jeanette Ray: See, and that was me, 'cause my brother, I mean, he did a little bit after school, but-
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah ... you know. Like I would, you know, I would intern there in the summers and, um, and then, uh, but I just, I don't know.
I felt like my parents never were like, "This is what, you're gonna come- Yeah ... do, run this business," or, you know. But you felt like- But I felt like I should ... it
Jeanette Ray: was what you were supposed to do. Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: And so I never worked there full time, but I, you know, I wor- spent some time there, and then I worked in the software industry for a long time.
Jeanette Ray: [00:27:00] Okay.
Ally Brettnacher: Mainly because of that.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Um, and I enjoyed a lot of it, but then, yeah, then my story is like, and then COVID was the turning point for me, too, so.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. Um, when your dad got sick, how did you know? How did he know, find out that he was sick? So,
Jeanette Ray: um, he w- he played the drums in the church band.
Ally Brettnacher: That's right. That's right. So I love, he's so cool.
Jeanette Ray: He is a cool guy. What
Ally Brettnacher: was, what's your dad's name?
Jeanette Ray: Jim.
Ally Brettnacher: Jim.
Jeanette Ray: Jim. So, uh, he was drumming and he told my mom that he couldn't keep rhythm. So he was like- Yeah ... "Something has to have happened. I can't keep rhythm." Um, and then he had a- Weird ... Diet Coke can. I'm trying to think when it was.
It was, like, at a family function, and we're all sitting there, and he had a Diet Coke in his hand and he dropped it, but he kept going on with his conversation. He had no clue that he dropped it. And so come to find out it was glioblastoma, which is brain cancer, which is very hard to get rid of. And I, you know, never having cancer [00:28:00] in any of our families or knowing very much about cancer.
Geez. Um, and so just kinda having to learn as we go and-
Ally Brettnacher: How old was he and how old were you?
Jeanette Ray: He was in his 50s.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah,
Jeanette Ray: so young. So- Ugh ... and I was thir- like 30 2/33.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay. Ugh.
Jeanette Ray: So, yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Awful. Yeah. I have two previous podcast guests, Jason Knoll, I don't know if you've ever met Jason- No ... but you should. He's a- Okay
survivor- Okay ... of glioblastoma, which you- Okay ... don't meet very often. Um, and he's- Yeah ... he's, he, like, runs World Majors. He's incredible. Oh, wow. He lives here in Carmel.
Jeanette Ray: Okay.
Ally Brettnacher: And then, um, Colleen DeRycker- Mm-hmm ... her dad is currently battling a glio- yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Mm.
Ally Brettnacher: So it's just like, ugh, how awful.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: But how weird that that's how you fi- I always picture, oh, you have, like, all these headaches- Yeah
Jeanette Ray: and
Ally Brettnacher: you're like, "
Jeanette Ray: Oh." No, no headaches. I mean, they eventually- I'm sure ... came.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: But no, I mean, he just, he had no clue.
Ally Brettnacher: How long did he live with cancer?
Jeanette Ray: Um, I wanna say two and a half years. Yeah. Two and a [00:29:00] half, three years.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Um, my brother had gotten engaged, and so they, he wanted to make sure he made it to the wedding, and so he was in, uh, remission during the wedding, and- Wow
and then I think it was probably September and it ca- it had come back.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: So. Oof. And at that point it was just kinda like, you know, he had a- had all the radiation that he could, and so it was kinda, you know, let's see- God ... what we can do, but we're just gonna try to prolong life.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah, like at this point we're not trying to s- I mean, that's so hard.
Yeah. Ugh, I'm so sorry.
Jeanette Ray: But it taught me so much. It taught... I mean, he basically is the reason why Leonard and I live downtown. So-
Ally Brettnacher: Okay, tell, tell, talk more about that ...
Jeanette Ray: he, so Leonard had always had a job downtown. Uh, we always went to Mass Ave. We went to The Front Page, which, rest in peace, Front Page, uh, is no longer- I feel like I've, I've
Ally Brettnacher: heard of that
Jeanette Ray: anymore. It's where The Eagle is. So I have a hard- Yeah ... time going into The Eagle.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah, you're like, "This
Jeanette Ray: used to be-" But, so we [00:30:00] always, our weekends were spent downtown. You know? And my dad was like, "Why do you guys live, you know, on the South Side? You need to do what you want to do, you know, and move downtown.
It is so you guys. You know, you need to live your life-
Ally Brettnacher: Mm-hmm ...
Jeanette Ray: and do exactly what you wanna do." He made a list - ... of what he wanted, food he wanted before he passed away. When he, he-
Ally Brettnacher: Oh my
Jeanette Ray: gosh ... probably, like, January-
Ally Brettnacher: Okay, why don't you have that as a tattoo? That would be cool.
Jeanette Ray: The list of all
Ally Brettnacher: the food? To be handwritten,
Jeanette Ray: the list, yeah.
I should
Ally Brettnacher: have. Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: I, we should go through it. We, I should ask my mom. I'm gonna text her when we leave here. Yeah. 'Cause she's actually moving, we're going through all of- Stuff, oh ... my childhood.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay. So
Jeanette Ray: maybe I'll find that.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: But, um, yeah. We just, he basically was like, you know, "We're gonna do what I wanna do."
And you should be living a life like this.
Ally Brettnacher: Ugh.
Jeanette Ray: And so I think that's why, [00:31:00] you know-
Ally Brettnacher: Gosh ...
Jeanette Ray: and we haven't even talked, like, Sweat House stuff. I know. I'm like thinking- But I
Ally Brettnacher: feel like that- This is gonna
Jeanette Ray: be a three-hour podcast ... that is why, you know, Leonard and I kinda live the life that we do, because it's important us, to us to do what we wanna do, and to kinda provide things for people that we think is important.
And I think that's kinda why I'm in the position in the wellness industry. You know, I just kinda leave it all out there. Yeah. You know, I'm not the greatest runner. I do the RUN317s for fun. You may see me at RUN317, and you're like, "Oh, that's her? She's struggling." Yeah, I struggle. So don't, you know-
Ally Brettnacher: That's her.
I hope, yeah,
Jeanette Ray: if you think- I, you know, but-
Ally Brettnacher: But I know what you mean ...
Jeanette Ray: I'm real.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. You know? You're not, yeah, you're not the, the picture... I hate the talking about this, but it's like the picture of a runner. People are like, "Oh, you know, if you look like..." And like, there is no- There's no like ... looking like a runner.
Yeah. If you [00:32:00] run- Yeah ... that's what I said the ever, every beginning, you run, you're a runner.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. You kinda-
Ally Brettnacher: Like-
Jeanette Ray: Do you ...
Ally Brettnacher: end of story.
Jeanette Ray: I al- always do you.
Ally Brettnacher: Well, we've gotta talk about Sweat House- Yes ... because we haven't talked about it.
Jeanette Ray: Yes.
Ally Brettnacher: So, tell people what it is.
Marker
Ally Brettnacher: All right, Jeanette and I are gonna get into what contrast therapy is in just a moment in this episode. This episode is brought to you by Sweat House. They are contrast therapy studios all over the US. I had always been curious about trying contrast therapy, and when I met Jeanette, I had the opportunity to do that, and now I find my body craves the feeling that I get from doing a session.
So essentially you book 60 minutes, you get a private suite, you do the sauna, it's an infrared sauna, then a vitamin C shower, and then a cold plunge for as long as you can handle it. I've worked up to six minutes or so. And if you're a runner, this is great for recovery. That heat and cold cycle helps flush the lactic acid out of fatigued muscles faster than just resting. It's been shown to seriously cut down on [00:33:00] soreness after a tough workout, and it helps bring down inflammation and joint stiffness, which if you've ever hobbled down the stairs the day after a long run or a race, you know that is real.
It also helps with sleep, which I know we can all use better sleep. And Jeanette and her team have studios in Broad Ripple, Carmel, Bottleworks, and then one opening in Fishers next year. You can go to sweathouse.com to find the location nearest you. That's sweat, house is H-O-U-Z .com
Book your first session using code ALLYB, A-L-L-Y-B, 5, that's ALLYB5, for $5 off of your first session.
Now, in a few minutes you're gonna hear all about it from Jeanette too, so I know you're gonna wanna try it out And I know you're gonna wanna be part of the Dunk Club
this episode is also brought to you by KILA, K-I-L-A, and they are the first company making custom insoles out of actual super shoe foam. If someone has ever told you that you need to get fitted for an orthotic or you're already running in one that you got from a run specialty store or an old custom insert, this is who I'd point you to next.
It is an [00:34:00] upgrade, not the entry point. So you know that stiff, clunky feel when the rigid orthotics sits under a soft modern trainer? KILA fixes that mismatch. Every insole is 3D printed from the same super shoe foam that is in carbon racing shoes, and it's molded to your exact feet and built in their own lab in San Diego, California.
There is no clinic visit required, no markup. You scan your feet at home with your iPhone, just takes a couple minutes, and then they ship straight to your door. I have a pair in my everyday trainers. They feel great. Once you feel the difference, I don't think you're gonna wanna go back
Head to kilarun.com, that's K-I-L-A run.com, and you can use code ALLYB, A-L-L-Y-B, for $50 off of your first order. That's kilarun.com, use code ALLYB. Thank you Killa for supporting this podcast and Runner's Feet. Now back to my conversation with Jeannette So, tell people what it is.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Because I really didn't know what contrast therapy was, and I had never done it before- Okay
until I met you.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. So contrast therapy is deliberate heat and cold [00:35:00] exposure. So for Sweat House, that is your own private room with an infrared sauna, vitamin C shower to rinse all that sweat off, and a cold plunge. So doing this together helps inflammation, joint issues, muscle soreness. Crazy enough, it helps with sleep.
Ally Brettnacher: Hm.
Jeanette Ray: Uh, I don't know if you've noticed, you know, but the sleep that you get on a night that you do contrast therapy is very deep. So yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Doesn't surprise me.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. Yeah. So, and also, um, great for anyone that has anxiety, depression, um, autoimmune issues. Yeah. Um, it's great during the winter to help you, um, with your immune system.
So, and it's not just for the runner, it is for everyone.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Everyone. People ask all the time like, "Oh, what's your demographic? Who are you playing towards?" I'm like, "Everyone."
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Everyone can use this
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah
Jeanette Ray: So.
Ally Brettnacher: It is, it is incredible. And I think I've [00:36:00] said this to you, that my body would, like, crave it.
Yeah. Now that I know w- how I feel after- Mm-hmm ... and like during, I'm like, "Ooh, I really wanna do that."
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. It's, it's, it's really good.
Jeanette Ray: And you can get into the, you know, you do the whole thing, get into the cold plunge, and sometimes I get out, and then I'm like, "I need to get back in." Like, I want more.
And I'm always like, "Leonard, are you okay in there in the sauna?- Yeah ... 'cause I'm gonna get back into- Yeah ... the cold
Ally Brettnacher: plunge." Okay, I haven't gotten back in the cold plunge yet. Yeah. But that's okay.
Jeanette Ray: Do it. It, it's crazy 'cause you think you're done, and then I get out and I start to dry myself off, and I'm like-
Ally Brettnacher: And you're just like, "I need a little"
Jeanette Ray: ooh, maybe like another minute.
Ally Brettnacher: Wow. Yeah. Yeah. So what, how long do you cold plunge usually?
Jeanette Ray: Uh, five minutes.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: But then, like, we have people that talk about it. Like Karen. Karen, exactly. Karen, she is a godsend to me, okay? I met her at, I don't even know what event it was. Um, this was [00:37:00] before we even had started construction.
We were, like, out doing events- Wow ... just to, like, get this well house name. Yeah, get the word out. Met her once. Starts following me on Instagram. I follow her back. We message, you know. She's, like, ready first. She wants to be the first... She was the first-
Ally Brettnacher: She was
Jeanette Ray: not ... Carmel pre-sale member.
Ally Brettnacher: That is so cool.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: She's Lupus Warrior Princess- Yes ... on Instagram for anybody. Yes. And go listen to her- Go follow her ...
Jeanette Ray: ep-
Ally Brettnacher: her episode, too, was really good of this podcast. Yeah. Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: I love her.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: She just, she was always there.
Ally Brettnacher: Mm.
Jeanette Ray: She would watch our Instagram posts, like, "Where you at? Where you at? I'm gonna go." Yeah. And they were all on Saturdays.
Yeah. So she would go run with the Carmel Run Club, and then she would find us, and she'd say, "What, what time are you gonna be there till?" And she would get there probably, like, 20 minutes till we were ending. Yeah. And she would be the last one. And she may sit in that cold plunge until, like, we clean everything [00:38:00] else up, and she's like, "Do you need me to get out?"
We're like, "No."
Ally Brettnacher: You just hang out. "
Jeanette Ray: You just hang out."
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. She told me, I think she's, like, she can do 20 minutes- Yeah ... or something crazy. I was like, wow. Yeah. But it helps her.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah, it does.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: I think it helps her all around with- All around ... lupus, but also she's a teacher.
Ally Brettnacher: Oh, my gosh.
Jeanette Ray: So all that stress- Yeah
and anxiety that build up. Mm-hmm. Um, so yeah, she's one of our pre-sale members- Yeah ... that we cherish, uh, in Carmel. How did you,
Ally Brettnacher: how did you find Sweat House?
Jeanette Ray: A friend of ours that is a, another business partner, um, he had suggested it. He had heard-
Ally Brettnacher: Were you looking for a business
Jeanette Ray: to- We were looking for a business.
We, in the fitness and wellness industry- Okay ... Leonard was trying to find something for me to call my own, and I mean, look at it now, you know? Right. But, um, yeah, he had seen it, and we went through three or four interviews. I mean, it was really... They pick you, you know?
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: You... There... It's not just like, [00:39:00] "Oh, you have the money-
Ally Brettnacher: Cool
Jeanette Ray: you know, here's the franchise." Yeah. Um, it's very, um, I mean, it's intense.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: And so we did probably three interviews with the owner. Um, and then- Where are they
Ally Brettnacher: based out of?
Jeanette Ray: Out of Atlanta. Okay. Um, he in- is not the owner anymore, but, um, he's moved on to crazy things. He's, uh, he just, his mind is amazing.
But, um, so we, uh, he was a Orange Theory, one of the largest Orange Theory franchise owners in the United States. And, uh, so with Orange Theory, I mean, you know.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: If you're doing that all the time, you need-
Ally Brettnacher: Oh, man. Yeah ... a little- You could just walk right next door after- Yeah ... an
Jeanette Ray: Orange Theory class. And so that's what it was.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: And so he started that. It was o- honestly first just sauna.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: Um, and then he kinda read up on contrast therapy and was like, "Okay, I'm gonna bring a cold plunge." So if you've ever gone to [00:40:00] Atlanta and gone to one of the what they call, um, 1.0 studios-
Ally Brettnacher: Oh, they're different.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah, it is a sauna- Okay ... in one room.
A sauna and a shower.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: And then you have to get out of the room and go to another room to cold plunge. Okay. Yeah. So we have 2.0s, which everything is in one room. In one
Ally Brettnacher: room, which is very nice.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. And you can bring a friend. Yep. I went on my 40th birthday- Yes ... with my friend Kate, who had just turned 40 as well.
Yeah, mm-hmm. Although she did not do the cold plunge.
Jeanette Ray: I think I remember that video.
Ally Brettnacher: You saw, I was like trying to shove her in there.
Jeanette Ray: I'm like, "Get in there."
Ally Brettnacher: I'm like, "You can do this. It is- And- ... gonna be fine."
Jeanette Ray: And I hate to- Like, I don't want to, when we do events, you know, I just wanna push you in the water.
Ally Brettnacher: Right.
Jeanette Ray: Like, get down. Um, and I want everybody to just... We can do hard things. Yeah. And if you can get through that first 30 to 60 seconds- That's all
Ally Brettnacher: you ne- that's exactly right, yeah ...
Jeanette Ray: then you're fine.
Ally Brettnacher: Then you're gonna be fine.
Jeanette Ray: And I call it- '
Ally Brettnacher: Cause then your body goes numb and
Jeanette Ray: you can't feel it ... you're glorious after that.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. Yeah, then you're good.
Jeanette Ray: Mm-hmm.
Ally Brettnacher: But yeah, it was really funny. I told her, "Okay, all you gotta do is get in and get all the [00:41:00] way in." Yeah, yeah. Because that's what Bailey, who works at your Carmel studio- Yeah ... told me the first time.
Jeanette Ray: Yes, yes.
Ally Brettnacher: And she also told me to dunk, which is funny, 'cause now I realize that's not, like, a normal occurrence.
There,
Jeanette Ray: there is... So there's, there is, and I think that this is the silliest thing, and I would have to get on and ask, but one of the counties in one of the states- Will not let you dunk. Like, that is one of the criteria in their licensing, 'cause I- Well how, well how do they know? I, I know, right? I mean, if you
Ally Brettnacher: post it on the internet, yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. But here we're fine. Yeah. We're fine, everyone.
Ally Brettnacher: You can dunk. You should
Jeanette Ray: dunk. You can dunk. Um, but I basically have, right now I have, I have seven public pools in Hamilton County, and I have soon to be 17 in Marion County.
Ally Brettnacher: Wow.
Jeanette Ray: Because they're regulated as
Ally Brettnacher: a public
Jeanette Ray: pool. That's
Ally Brettnacher: hilarious. Come swim.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah, come to my public
Ally Brettnacher: pool.
So like, somebody could just be like, "I demand to use your public pool."
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. [00:42:00] I'd be like, "Uh, I'm gonna have to charge you."
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah, sorry, you're gonna need to pay for that. Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah,
Ally Brettnacher: yeah. That's funny. Well, and I'm glad too, we were talking about before we recorded, that people heard about it because of me- 'Cause of you
'cause I was going.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: And I, you know, I- Yeah,
Jeanette Ray: we had somebody come in last week and get a membership.
Ally Brettnacher: Thank you-
Jeanette Ray: She- ...
Ally Brettnacher: whoever that is.
Jeanette Ray: Well, thank you- Yeah ... for showing it on Instagram. It
Ally Brettnacher: was fun.
Jeanette Ray: Um, but yeah, came in and I... And we had met her at the, um, mini.
Ally Brettnacher: At the event?
Jeanette Ray: Mm-hmm. So, and kids went back to school last week, and so- Oh, it's like finally
that was her
Ally Brettnacher: treat to herself. Yeah. I mean, and it is really, it is a treat.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. It is such a treat. 'Cause I have a sauna at home.
Jeanette Ray: Mm-hmm.
Ally Brettnacher: Um, an infrared sauna. My husband got, I think Christmas time around. And I still, I still use that.
Jeanette Ray: Mm-hmm.
Ally Brettnacher: Then you realize the sauna's not quite an- enough. Yeah. Like, it doesn't do all that you need.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: And so I find that if I'm not visiting Sweat House, then I'm taking a cold ass shower, which does- ... still doesn't do what you
Jeanette Ray: need. It's hard to do though.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. And the shower's dif- it is different.
Jeanette Ray: It's different.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. Yeah. So I would encourage everybody to try contrast therapy at least o- [00:43:00] once.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Because it does feel so good, especially if you're near infratrening.
Jeanette Ray: Once, but I feel like you have to do it two times.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah, to really get it?
Jeanette Ray: And to get it. I always tell people the first time, you know, you're nervous just like you are- ... you know, your first race. Mm-hmm. Your first workout at a new gym.
You're nervous. You have anxiety, so you're not really able to kinda calm yourself as much as you should. That's fair. So you do the first one. You're extremely nervous getting into that cold plunge.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: And, you know, maybe you only do 30, 40 seconds. You get out, you go home, and you're like, "I could've done longer."
Ally Brettnacher: Right.
Jeanette Ray: And so being able to come back, and we call that an encore.
Ally Brettnacher: Oh, right. That is right. You do call it that- Yeah ... which I love. Yeah. That's, that's smart.
Jeanette Ray: So you have the intro, the encore. That second time you know what you're expecting and you know, you know, the feelings that you're gonna feel, and you're a little bit more relaxed- Mm
going in to start it.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. That makes a lot of sense [00:44:00] actually.
Jeanette Ray: So- Yeah ... and then I, then I feel like you really get the whole-
Ally Brettnacher: The exper- the experience- The whole experience ... you're supposed to.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. Well, and I o- I appreciate little things like details, and I just feel like Sweat House has thought about everything.
Like, bring... I, the first time I didn't bring a water bottle- Yep ... 'cause I didn't know about the fancy water thing that you can use. Yeah. And then, you know, the scented cold towels. Mm-hmm. And just, like, you can watch T- like Netflix if you want- Yeah ... while you're in there. Yep. I mean- Just it seems like everything has been thought of, and there's like a bag for all your, you know, for me- Your wet clothes
I come in like right after an 18-miler.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah,
Ally Brettnacher: yeah. And, you know, was worried I wasn't gonna be able to climb out of the
Jeanette Ray: tub. Yeah. You're like pushing the button- Yeah ...
Ally Brettnacher: panic button Somebody get me out. Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: I need help in here.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah, and then the first time I went I didn't bring a swimsuit, and so I went in my underwear and bra.
Jeanette Ray: Mm-hmm.
Ally Brettnacher: And so that was kinda like, okay, I need to... Uh, 'cause I sh- I at least rinsed it off You know, we probably
Jeanette Ray: had a swimsuit
Ally Brettnacher: there ... though. Oh. I did acquire a hairbrush from your studio- Did you? ... that I love actually. Okay. It sounds so gross, guys. I'm so sorry. But I forgot one, and I was getting, I was drying my hair.
Jeanette Ray: [00:45:00] Uh-huh.
Ally Brettnacher: And, um, I forget who it was at the Carmel studio, but she was like, "I have one in lost and found if you want me to like clean it off and you can have it- Oh,
Jeanette Ray: see? ...
Ally Brettnacher: or use it." And I
Jeanette Ray: was like- Above and beyond ... "Thank you."
Ally Brettnacher: Absolutely above and beyond. They clean it off
Jeanette Ray: for you.
Ally Brettnacher: I know. How many times a week do you dunk?
Or not dunk, but like do a session?
Jeanette Ray: I try to do three.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: I'm lucky 'cause- ... I'm in the studios a lot.
Ally Brettnacher: A lot, yeah. That makes
Jeanette Ray: sense. So I can just, you know-
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah, pop in and-
Jeanette Ray: Leonard, he, he's trying to get to two.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: Um, so we usually do one session a week together.
Ally Brettnacher: That's nice.
Jeanette Ray: And that's just kind of our-
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Just a little special.
Jeanette Ray: We don't have a lot of time.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: So that's like our hour. You're
Ally Brettnacher: always working. It's like- Yeah,
Jeanette Ray: yeah ...
Ally Brettnacher: do you make a rule that you can't talk about work while you're in the studio? 'Cause I feel like that would be so hard. I
Jeanette Ray: don't know.
Ally Brettnacher: Probably not.
Jeanette Ray: We don't have that rule-
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah, yeah
'cause we
Jeanette Ray: definitely talk
Ally Brettnacher: about
Jeanette Ray: work.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. Gosh. But- For sure ...
Jeanette Ray: it's, it's a good time, you know, just one hour to yourself.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: We have shirts and it's like, "See you in an hour."
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. Oh, that's cute. I really, the first time I did the cold plunge... [00:46:00] Well, I actually recommend if you're nervous about it, video yourself, 'cause I was like, "I gotta do it- Yeah
if I'm on video." Yeah. I'm gonna prove that I'm not a baby.
Jeanette Ray: Well, and if you follow me on Instagram, you know when I'm doing a session- Yeah ... 'cause I always post.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. So it's, you know, so you get in and you're like, "Okay." And then I look at the clock and I realize, like I'm looking at the clock and I'm like, "Oh, shoot, it's counting down, not up."
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: And I'm like, "What time did I start?" And then all of a sudden my brain's not working and I'm like, "Well, okay, I guess we'll go from here." And I'm like trying to do- ... math.
Jeanette Ray: I do a song.
Ally Brettnacher: Now I, now I do my watch.
Jeanette Ray: Oh, okay.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: I do a song.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay, that's
Jeanette Ray: smart. So I usually put on Spotify, it's usually like '90s hip hop- That's great
or something.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: And I'll do one or two songs.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay, that's smart.
Jeanette Ray: And I roughly know that that's about five minutes. I
Ally Brettnacher: feel like we need to put together a list of all these like pro tips.
Jeanette Ray: Yes. Ooh, we should do that. Okay.
Ally Brettnacher: Like all the things you should bring.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. '
Ally Brettnacher: Cause, you know, every time I'm like, "Okay, do I have my brush?
Do I have my clean clothes? Do I
Jeanette Ray: have
Ally Brettnacher: my deodorant?" I have a bag. Yeah,
Jeanette Ray: a bag- I have a- ... that I use ... Sweat House bag. Yeah. It's in my car. It has every swimsuit I own, I think, in it. That's funny, yeah. And, uh- ... it's got deodorant. [00:47:00] Um, it's got my heat resistant like hair s-
Ally Brettnacher: Oh, stuff that you put on- Because, you know- Yeah, products for
Jeanette Ray: your hair, yeah
on, when I dunk-
Ally Brettnacher: Okay, I also bought- ... gotta have it ... a Dyson hairdryer because I used it at your studio, which I was like, "Ugh."
Jeanette Ray: When we- I don't- It just cost me so much money ... that and the, and the air straightener.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. I didn't use that. I haven't used that. I have like a competitor to it-
Jeanette Ray: Okay ... and I
Ally Brettnacher: don't use it very well.
Jeanette Ray: I'm impressed with the air straightener, even though, I will say, and I love you- Is that how you did your hair today? ... all that make it. No. Okay. This is like a, just a little like crimper type thing. Okay.
Ally Brettnacher: It's cute, yeah.
Jeanette Ray: But I love you all that use the air straightener, but it is the weirdest thing, 'cause it's like, "Err, err."
I don't know if you've ever been in there when somebody uses it. No,
Ally Brettnacher: I've never done it before.
Jeanette Ray: But it's blowing the air, so when you, when you squeeze it-
Ally Brettnacher: It like squeezes the air out and
Jeanette Ray: it squeaks ... yeah, and it's like- So you know when someone is like straightening their hair. Not in the suite- Yeah ... but you know-
Ally Brettnacher: That's
Jeanette Ray: funny
at the front desk. You're like, "Oh, somebody's straightening their hair." [00:48:00] Yep. When we go, and it's on my list of orders this week, because I'm getting all this stuff because Bottle Works is getting ready to open. Ah. But doing the Dysons, I'm gonna ask them for like a little discount code and a QR.
Ally Brettnacher: You should.
Jeanette Ray: 'Cause I think- It's brilliant ... 10, 15, 20% off- Oh, that's huge ... people ask all the time.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: And they need, we need a Sweat House discount.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: So-
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah ...
Jeanette Ray: see what, we'll see what
Ally Brettnacher: happens. Or you personally should get one- Right ... and be like, you know.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. 'Cause there are so many times that people come in and say, "Do you get a discount?"
Like, "Can I get a discount- Yeah ... and buy this?" Or like you just, you said- Yeah ... you bought one, so. Right.
Ally Brettnacher: So now they've heard... Well, nobody from Dyson probably listens to the podcast- We're gonna tag
Jeanette Ray: them in the podcast ...
Ally Brettnacher: but they should. Yeah. I mean, hello. Well, I've thought about that too, like when I go on vacation.
Like my brain is so weird, but I think about product placement in Airbnbs and- Mm-hmm ... things like that. You're just like, this is such a great opportunity for people to try something- Yeah ... that maybe they've been curious about trying.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: But like where else are you gonna try to use a Dyson?
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. You know?
No, I mean-
Ally Brettnacher: And you- [00:49:00] At home ... yeah, I'm not gonna spend that kind of money and then return it. Right.
Jeanette Ray: Right.
Ally Brettnacher: So anyway.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: I digress, but, um, if anyone's thinking about buying a Dyson, wait till we have a code, please.
Jeanette Ray: Wait till we have a code. Yeah. We may have one here.
Ally Brettnacher: We're gonna figure it out.
Jeanette Ray: We're getting ready to open Bottle Works- Yeah
so.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay, so let's talk about that. Yeah. So we have Carmel and, um-
Jeanette Ray: Carmel and Broad Ripple opened ... and Broad Ripple. That's right. So baby one, Broad Ripple, it opened in May.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: Of what? 2025.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: July 1st was Carmel.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: Of 2025.
Ally Brettnacher: Yep.
Jeanette Ray: And then we're getting ready to open here in like, um... Let's see. What's today?
The 17th.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: Le- almost less than a month.
Ally Brettnacher: Whoa.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. Which that, I mean, this is like, what is... This is, we're gonna release here pretty soon the date. Uh, I may even have it tomorrow, so I can't. That's
Ally Brettnacher: so exciting.
Jeanette Ray: But very
Ally Brettnacher: close. Well, if you do, then I'll add it to the- Okay ... enterprise episode, but okay. Yeah, I'm also thinking now about Monumental.
Are you guys gonna be at Monumental? And then we're gonna do [00:50:00] an event at Monumental. I'm like- So- ... are we doing a Colpalunge
Jeanette Ray: around that? It's really... I know. It's really hard- I find myself, like we wanna do so much with the community- Oh, tell me about it. Yeah ... but it's all It's, like, costly.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Um, and Monumental is a very hefty price.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Mini is very hefty price.
Ally Brettnacher: Mm-hmm.
Jeanette Ray: So we try to do a lot of things that are low cost.
Ally Brettnacher: Smart.
Jeanette Ray: Um, so right now we don't have anything with Monumental, and we, uh... I'm really bad about budgeting for things- Yeah ... like that.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah, it's hard.
Jeanette Ray: So I want, but I wanna be everywhere. So right now, no, you're not gonna see us at Monumental, but you will have two locations that you will run by.
Ally Brettnacher: Crazy. That's
Jeanette Ray: so
Ally Brettnacher: true.
Jeanette Ray: So yeah, you're gonna run by- Bottle
Ally Brettnacher: Works
Jeanette Ray: and
Ally Brettnacher: Broad Ripple ...
Jeanette Ray: Bottle Works and Broad Ripple.
Ally Brettnacher: You should just put the cold plunge outside in Broad Ripple. You're halfway. Get
Jeanette Ray: in. I know. You are. You're really halfway right there. Yeah, yeah. Um, so last year we were out, and we were like, "You need-" Oh, that's so fun.
We had a [00:51:00] sign, and it was like, "You need a monumental recovery after this."
Ally Brettnacher: Oh,
Jeanette Ray: that's awesome. Um, and so we usually put like a digital gift, uh, code- Oh, yeah,
Ally Brettnacher: in the-
Jeanette Ray: In the- ... packet or whatever ... packet. Yeah,
Ally Brettnacher: that's cool.
Jeanette Ray: Um, so this year will be a little different since we have the two open.
Ally Brettnacher: Mm-hmm.
Jeanette Ray: Um, and I feel like we continue to grow, and it shocks me still every day, though, 'cause somebody's like, "Oh, I didn't know that you were here," or, "I didn't know what you were," or
Ally Brettnacher: anything.
It's weird because you feel like you're yelling on the top of the roof. Yes. Like, "I'm here. Here I am." Yeah. Like, "Oh, you didn't know this?" Yeah. But then you realize how much... I think about myself and how much I'm aware of, like, in my own bubble.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: And you're... Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: And people, you know. Just don't know. So every year I feel like, um, every race it gets busier and busier the day of.
Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Um- Well, I'm sure soon, I mean, if not already, like you're gonna have to plan in advance-
Jeanette Ray: Yeah ...
Ally Brettnacher: if you want a book- Yeah ... for races because-
Jeanette Ray: Well, I think for Carmel, I think I even, like... I knew Karen would want-
Ally Brettnacher: Right ...
Jeanette Ray: so I think I even, like, texted her- Oh, text her- ... and I was like- ... and was
Ally Brettnacher: like, "You need to get a spot- "Hey"
if you [00:52:00] want one." Yeah. "
Jeanette Ray: Get your name on the schedule." Yeah. Um, because it will fill up.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. So. Yeah. Do people think it's like a hot yoga studio? Or, like, do they confuse what it is?
Jeanette Ray: Um, people, people have really interesting thoughts of what it is. Uh, some people think it's like Hotworks.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Or, you know, well, hot yoga, yeah.
Yeah. Um, so it's just kinda like- It's kinda funny I, we're doing a lot more, I feel, a lot more educational things now.
Ally Brettnacher: Mm-hmm.
Jeanette Ray: Um, you know, we may not take the plunge everywhere. Um, and we're doing more of, like, you know, vendor spots, but educating- Yeah ... and showing what it is. Um, because I feel like sometimes when we bring the cold plunge, that's all they think about.
Ally Brettnacher: Right. Sure.
Jeanette Ray: And so then, you know, there's so much more.
Ally Brettnacher: Mm-hmm.
Jeanette Ray: Um, and so trying to get the education out there to get them in-
Ally Brettnacher: Mm-hmm ...
Jeanette Ray: to understand and do a session- Yeah ... to, to really- Right ... feel what it is.
Ally Brettnacher: Well, it's [00:53:00] almost like a spa treatment of some- Yeah ... you know? It's the ...
Jeanette Ray: I would
Ally Brettnacher: equate
Jeanette Ray: it to-
Ally Brettnacher: Well- ... that versus- And
Jeanette Ray: I, I try to get people to get away from, we say experience-
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah
Jeanette Ray: all the time, but I want them to get it into their routine.
Ally Brettnacher: Mm. Mm-hmm. '
Jeanette Ray: Cause an experience is, sometimes people look at that as a one-time thing. Right. And so this is something that you need to continue to do- Mm-hmm ... to continue to have that feeling. Um, so it's about 60 minutes you need in the sauna a week, and then 11 minutes in the cold plunge-
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Yeah ...
Jeanette Ray: to get the maximum. The max
Ally Brettnacher: benefits.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. And then Fishers opens next year?
Jeanette Ray: Fishers will be next year. Um, it is under, I think it's called The AC Hotel-
Ally Brettnacher: Okay ...
Jeanette Ray: in the Union.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: And the Union is next to the event center. So, um, we are under the hotel, so we have to wait until-
Ally Brettnacher: The hotel's, yeah ...
Jeanette Ray: we have, the hotel is up and running, and then we will start construction.
But it's usually [00:54:00] 120-day build-out-
Ally Brettnacher: Okay ...
Jeanette Ray: uh, once we have possession, have the permits and everything. So it's not crazy-
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah ...
Jeanette Ray: um, timeframe. So I'm excited for that one. We're close to, um, Jet Set Pilates-
Ally Brettnacher: Okay ...
Jeanette Ray: um, and a few other, I think, uh, oh gosh, what is it? Like- I'm like, I don't know anything ... there's a candle shop.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah, I don't know anything.
Jeanette Ray: It's, like, Soy... I ca- I don't know.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: I should
Ally Brettnacher: know. So exciting. Are there, are you gonna, is that, like, your plan for, like, the establishing a presence and then- Yeah ... do you have your eye on other-
Jeanette Ray: No, not right now. Um, we bought four licenses. Okay. Um, so we're just kinda, I know we have people in, like, Avon, Brownsburg-
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah
Jeanette Ray: um, Zionsville uh, Center Grove area, Bargersville
Ally Brettnacher: Mm-hmm, mm-hmm
Jeanette Ray: Um, but right now that's, you know, just a dream Well, I know it's a lot of
Ally Brettnacher: work, too. It is. Like, I mean, to be having four.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. It's insane.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah, I have no kids, but the, I have- But
Ally Brettnacher: [00:55:00] these are your babies. Yeah. I love that.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Well, and it's, it's funny 'cause I was thinking about how to ask you about that, so you gave me an opportunity now, so now I will.
Yeah. But I was thinking when you said, "Baby number one is this" Yeah ... "this location, and then I had this one," did you guys know from the get-go that you weren't gonna have kids?
Jeanette Ray: Uh, no. I mean, I kinda thought we would. Uh, I love, like, my cousins and, um, all of their kids. We have nieces and nephews. Um, love doing things with them, love taking them places.
Um, our oldest, uh, is Alyssa and she's 25. Oh,
Ally Brettnacher: fun.
Jeanette Ray: Um, and so she was kinda like our baby. We all kinda took care of her, uh, when she was growing up, and I really thought that we would. And we, I read a book and I was like- Oh, no ... "Leonard" A book
Ally Brettnacher: about becoming
Jeanette Ray: a mom. A book about being, becoming pregnant.
Ally Brettnacher: Well, that
Jeanette Ray: was a mistake.
And that was a mistake. Yeah. And so I read... I didn't even get through the whole book.
Ally Brettnacher: That's
Jeanette Ray: so crazy. And I asked [00:56:00] Leonard, "Are you sure? Like, are having kids important to you?" And he was like, "Eh, whatever happens happens." We are so, I mean, you probably see and all my employees are like, "You're crazy. You work all the time."
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Um, and so we have always been that. We've always been very hard workers, and work is very important to us, and, uh, so we like to work hard, play hard.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: And we really thought, you know, I don't wanna give that up, and we started to see our friends and, you know, they weren't able to do stuff because they had kids.
Yep. And we just kinda thought, you know- Maybe dogs.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: And so- That was
Ally Brettnacher: gonna be my next question ...
Jeanette Ray: we had two dogs.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: Um, and we had them from probably when they were six months old, and they both have passed away, but they were 18 when they passed away.
Ally Brettnacher: Stop it. I hope my dog lives till 18. Yeah. He's 12, so he's getting old, but he's- Yeah
so spry, and I just don't want him to ever die.
Jeanette Ray: I know. I know. They get... I mean, [00:57:00] ours, they lived downtown for the last, you know, seven, eight years of their lives. Yeah. And walking around, and I think that gave pro- kind of prolonged their life.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Um, but yeah, 18, they were rocking, rocking it till 18.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah, you raised some adults.
Jeanette Ray: So I did. I did. They were, they were like 100 and something. I don't even know
with
Ally Brettnacher: the dog years. Right, in dog years, I don't know either. That's too mu- that's way too much math.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah, it is. I don't, I'm not mathing.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. Do you have aspirations to do other types of races, like beyond a half-marathon? Do you have aspirations to do, do a marathon?
Jeanette Ray: Funny you ask that because I'm doing a HYROX simulation.
Ally Brettnacher: Yes. Yeah, when?
Jeanette Ray: In
Ally Brettnacher: October. What is that? A simulation? What are,
Jeanette Ray: are you talking about- Yeah, it's, it's basically a HYROX event.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: Um, it is for people that are training for HYROX to, like Nashville I think is in November. Oh, I wanna do that. And so they kinda like do one, um, it's at Myriad downtown.
Ally Brettnacher: Oh, so it's he- in Indie?
Jeanette Ray: Yeah, it's in Indie. Um, and you can sign up.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay. Well, so-
Jeanette Ray: I'll have to give you that information. You will-
Ally Brettnacher: But I'm- ... because [00:58:00] I'm curious about it.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. I'm actually, so I've never done anything like this. I'm a little concerned, but I'm doing- That's great ... doubles. So Shane, um, our, he was our store manager in Broad Ripple.
Okay. He's now our district.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: Um, and he did one. He, uh, when was it? It was probably March or April.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: Um, and we are a sponsor, and so they give us one-
Ally Brettnacher: Oh, nice ...
Jeanette Ray: uh, entry. And so he took it, took the challenge on.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: I, on the other hand, decided I would sign up for their six-week program to, um, train.
Ally Brettnacher: Well, you, I mean, if people don't know- 'Cause I
Jeanette Ray: don't even know-
Ally Brettnacher: Okay. If people don't know what a HYROX is, they should-
Jeanette Ray: First, I don't know what a HYROX is. I don't either, actually. I don't really know what I've gotten myself into. I know I've gotta run.
Ally Brettnacher: Yep.
Jeanette Ray: I've gotta push the sled, push and pull the sled. I have to do burpees.
Ally Brettnacher: Yep.
Jeanette Ray: I have to do lunges-
Ally Brettnacher: There's the farmer's
Jeanette Ray: carry ... with this pack. Yep. That, that's- The farmer's, or farmer's carry. Um-
Ally Brettnacher: What are we missing?
Jeanette Ray: Um, skier [00:59:00] and row.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah, the rowing. Right. It's a lot of different movements. So- And those are not movements that, I mean- I don't do, like, burpees- ... some of these, like on
Jeanette Ray: the regular
on the regular.
Ally Brettnacher: Maybe I do when I do my strength classes, like, and I do that once a week, so. But
Jeanette Ray: you have to do it the right way. Right. And so- There's
Ally Brettnacher: rules.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah, there's rules. I think Shane was in the middle of doing the lunges, and you have to put, um, weight on your shoulders around you. And he set it down, and the lady's like, "That's five seconds off your score," or off your time.
Your time, yeah. Your end time. Um, and he's, you know, he's like Okay. Because he's like, "I can't do this." Um, but he finished. He completed it, and so when they asked us to be a sponsor for this October one They said we had another entry and so- Oh
Ally Brettnacher: my gosh ...
Jeanette Ray: I said, "Shane, do you wanna do that together?" Uh, which I feel like I need something right now to, like, strive towards.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Um, [01:00:00] that isn't work related. Um, so this is gonna be interesting.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. So- Yeah, it will be. Well, I'm ch- anxious to follow that journey.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah, yeah. We will see. I will be posting it all over Instagram. Yeah. I start September 14th with the training. With the program.
Ally Brettnacher: I wanna do
Jeanette Ray: it. And it's six weeks. Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Oh.
Yeah, I, well, 'cause my husband does F45.
Jeanette Ray: Mm-hmm.
Ally Brettnacher: He used to do CrossFit.
Jeanette Ray: Okay.
Ally Brettnacher: And so he really likes that type of fitness- Yeah ... over just running.
Jeanette Ray: Mm-hmm.
Ally Brettnacher: I don't know if I'll ever get him back to running. I'm trying.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: It might take, it's gonna be a slow burn.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: But I was like, "Ooh, it'd be really cool if we could experience something together."
And so Hyrox would be so fun. Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Oh,
Ally Brettnacher: yeah. But you, when you do a doubles, when you do the couples- You have to do the men's weight ... you have to do the
Jeanette Ray: men's weight.
Ally Brettnacher: Which I'm like-
Jeanette Ray: Yeah ...
Ally Brettnacher: ah.
Jeanette Ray: I'm a little concerned about that.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Um, 'cause I know I could do it if I was doing the women's.
Ally Brettnacher: Right.
Jeanette Ray: Um, so but I've been talking to people, and they're like, "You need Shane, Shane needs to do this.
This is one of the-"
Ally Brettnacher: Oh ... "
Jeanette Ray: obstacles that he's gonna have to do." Um- [01:01:00]
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah,
Jeanette Ray: that's good to have that advice ... or, or he, or Shane's gonna have to do the majority of this one, and you're gonna take on the rowing, or... So there's a lot of strategic-
Ally Brettnacher: That's good
Jeanette Ray: to know ... planning that you have to do. Yeah. But you have to run together, you know?
Oh. And you gotta think, he's like giant over me.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: So he's gonna have to like, he may have to walk to my run.
Ally Brettnacher: Right. You're like- Because- "It takes four steps for me-" Yeah, yeah ... "to go like one step of yours."
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. Yeah. So we'll see. Um- That's
Ally Brettnacher: exciting ...
Jeanette Ray: we're gonna, uh, we're gonna train, and that's like our little side gig and, um, something to look forward to, and an achievement that we can do that isn't Sweat House related.
Ally Brettnacher: Right.
Jeanette Ray: Um, but still in the health and wellness. In the
Ally Brettnacher: wellness community.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. Yeah, that's so fun. Yeah. Okay, well, I can't wait. I've, I've been very curious about it.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: As a runner, I am constantly behind in my strength training.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: I don't love doing it. But I feel like some people don't realize- But it's so good
Jeanette Ray: that it is important-
Ally Brettnacher: So important ... you know,
Jeanette Ray: for [01:02:00] runners ...
Ally Brettnacher: I would be so much better all around if I had a really str- if I was stronger. Yeah,
Jeanette Ray: yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Which makes a lot of sense, you know?
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: But you don't just get stronger by using the same muscles all the time. Right. So yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Gotta switch it up. That's
Ally Brettnacher: really cool.
Jeanette Ray: Change it up.
Ally Brettnacher: Um, I also saw that you went to a conference in Chicago?
Jeanette Ray: Oh, Faces of Fitness.
Ally Brettnacher: Faces of Fitness. Yeah. Which I'd never heard of. Yeah. Could you tell people what that is?
Jeanette Ray: Yeah, so Faces of Fitness is a, think a music festival, but it's fitness. I
Ally Brettnacher: wanna do that. Yeah. It
Jeanette Ray: is so cool. So cool. And this year, um, Simone Biles was- Mm-hmm
the, um, headliner for the Sunday. So it's two-day event.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: Um, the, the two days are very similar. Um, there are stages. They, um- On Saturday, there's four workouts going on at all times.
Ally Brettnacher: Wow.
Jeanette Ray: So four different stages, and then Sunday it goes down to one stage and everybody does everything together. And, uh, it is [01:03:00] just a great workout.
It's great to see all these people come together, every shape-
Ally Brettnacher: Mm ...
Jeanette Ray: every size, every color, um, and just be one.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah, that's so cool.
Jeanette Ray: And it kinda gives me chills thinking about it. Uh, I walk, you walk in and it's just, you're kinda in awe. And it's got every kind of, every wellness brand, uh, whether it's drinks, uh, whether it is vitamins, um, all the gyms- Yeah
are just surrounded by this workout.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay, before I ask you the end of the podcast questions, I wanna talk about, I wanted you to tell the story about your tattoo, 'cause I mentioned- Oh ... the, like, list of foods that your dad had on his list- Yes, yes ... or on his list before he passed. But you also have this really beautiful scripted tattoo on your arm- Yes
that I saw earlier that's from your grandma.
Jeanette Ray: So- You can tell people ... all of my tattoos have some kind of meaning. I mean, most people do.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: But these are, uh, [01:04:00] this is, it says, "Love Grandpa and Grandma Burger." This was on a birthday card to me. Um, she did it, she would always, whether we lived close or not, we always got $20 and a birthday card put in the mail to wherever we were living at the time, um, all like 30 plus of my cousins.
Um, and this was the last one that I got from her, and this was done the day be- the day before, two days before she passed away. So, uh, my grandpa actually had to tell me that there was a card coming in the mail for me from her. Um, and so I kept the card. I still have it today. Mm. It's with, like, our, um, wedding-
Ally Brettnacher: So cool
Jeanette Ray: you know, little packages and stuff. Mm.
Ally Brettnacher: Mm-hmm.
Jeanette Ray: Um, but yeah, so this is from her. I got it from Metamorphis.
Ally Brettnacher: Oh, yeah. That's where I got, I got my ears pierced there a long time ago.
Jeanette Ray: They're good. Yeah. They're good. It's really
Ally Brettnacher: pretty.
Jeanette Ray: But, um, yeah, so this is very important [01:05:00] to me. Um, and she's always with me. Yeah.
And he's always with me too.
Ally Brettnacher: And she passed on your birthday, you said.
Jeanette Ray: She did.
Ally Brettnacher: Wild.
Jeanette Ray: Both of my grandmas did. I didn't even say that when we were talking earlier, but- What? My Grandma E and my Grandma B. Both of my parents, A- April 6th. Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Whoa. Wow. Yeah. Wow, that's... Okay.
Jeanette Ray: Crazy.
Ally Brettnacher: So, like, not the same year, but different years?
Not the same
Jeanette Ray: year.
Ally Brettnacher: It's still- Different
Jeanette Ray: years. Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: H- that... You're like, "You gotta be kidding me, guys." I know. I know you're always with me, but this is a little rough. Like.
Jeanette Ray: I
Ally Brettnacher: think
Jeanette Ray: because I'm really bad with dates-
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah ...
Jeanette Ray: they wanted to make sure I remembered. I don't
Ally Brettnacher: know. Clearly. So,
Jeanette Ray: yeah. That is so
Ally Brettnacher: crazy.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. And I can laugh about it now. Of
Ally Brettnacher: course.
Jeanette Ray: The fir- Yeah. Like, my Grandma E, I didn't really know, like... I was so young, I didn't know.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: Um, because it was... I was probably seven, six or seven.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: Um- Oh, so that was- And so that was kinda-
Ally Brettnacher: So your dad's mom or your [01:06:00] mom's mom?
Jeanette Ray: My dad's mom.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: Um, and then my mom's mom, which is this, um, she had a really bad stroke.
She was, like, out gardening, and so that... Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Some wild stories.
Jeanette Ray: I know. We could go on
Ally Brettnacher: and on. I mean, yeah. Like, we could literally have a three-hour episode- Yeah, yeah ... if, yeah, we dig in even more. Oh, okay. Well, I'm gonna ask you the end of the podcast questions now. Okay. So the first one is, what is your favorite running song and/or mantra?
Jeanette Ray: Mkay. So it's gonna be a song, and you'll hear it probably once a month on Instagram. This Is How We Do It.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Montell Jordan.
Ally Brettnacher: It's, it's a
Jeanette Ray: classic. 'Cause this is how we do it. I love that song, and I will play that song, not the first one. It's not, like, number one when I start to run. Um, but it's about two or three, you know?
'Cause you, you start, and I feel, I start to run, uh, and I am kinda [01:07:00] in my head. I'm trying to get my breathing right. I always feel like I have anxiety at the beginning.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: And so my mind is just all over, but probably about 10 minutes in is when I really start to listen to my music. and jam out and I need, this is how we do it.
Ally Brettnacher: Excellent. Excellent.
Jeanette Ray: It may not be Friday night, but- Yeah ... but we're still doing it.
Ally Brettnacher: And then next finish line we talked about HYROX.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: So the simulation is what you're working towards- Yes ... but then will you sign up for another one, like, next year, like a big one?
Jeanette Ray: I don't know. I have a- I guess
Ally Brettnacher: you
Jeanette Ray: won't know
I have a girlfriend that, um, is doing HYROX and doing, uh, Nashville this year. She did, um, New York earlier-
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. Cool ...
Jeanette Ray: this year.
Ally Brettnacher: So cool.
Jeanette Ray: And, uh, so there are talks of us doing it together. Um, so
Ally Brettnacher: we'll see. You'll just have to see. Yeah. Yeah. You're probably gonna be like, "I'm never doing this again," but that's, like, what always happens, right?
I
Jeanette Ray: always say that- It's the cliche ... when I finish the Mini.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah, right.
Jeanette Ray: This is the last one.
Ally Brettnacher: Right.
Jeanette Ray: I can't [01:08:00] take this anymore. And then the next day I sign up again.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah, you're like, "Fine, Dad." Yeah. Thanks, Dad.
Jeanette Ray: Thanks, Dad. HYROX.
Ally Brettnacher: Mm-hmm. I never knew about it until this guy that I ran the Marine Corps Marathon with last year, turns out is, like, the biggest running influencer, I feel like.
He did this, like, dating thing where they did a dating series where you, like, got randomly paired with somebody.
Jeanette Ray: Oh my gosh. So for like-
Ally Brettnacher: And his partner... For a HYROX ra- like, for an event. For
Jeanette Ray: a race?
Ally Brettnacher: And that was, like, their first date.
Jeanette Ray: Oh my gosh.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah. And it's all, it's, like, in pr- conjunction with this dating app- Mm-hmm
called Surf Dating, and so it's, like, a partnership, which I thought was brilliant. I think that- But he's still dating his, the girl ...
Jeanette Ray: I think that that is amazing though, but I also feel like when you're in your element and you're doing the HYROX or, you know, you're running or you're walking- Yeah ... um, or you're doing anything health related, I feel like the connection that you get with people is, like, a totally- Way different
different [01:09:00] level.
Ally Brettnacher: Well, like, my people I run with on Friday mornings, like, know way more about me than they probably want to. Yeah,
Jeanette Ray: yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Because it's just, yeah, those moments of connection and-
Jeanette Ray: You're kind of vun- vulnerable.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: But- For
Ally Brettnacher: sure ...
Jeanette Ray: at the same time y- the sa- the people that you're with share some of that.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: I don't know. It's weird. Yeah. I know I have this, uh, group chat. It's called Day One Baddies.
Ally Brettnacher: I like that.
Jeanette Ray: It's my Day One girls 'cause I go to Day One downtown.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: And there's probably six of us.
Ally Brettnacher: What is Day One? I don't know what that-
Jeanette Ray: Day One is a gym.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay. Okay.
Jeanette Ray: Um, and it's just strength training. Um, it's an amazing gym.
Uh, I love it. It is very, it works with you and there's all kinds of, you know, if you aren't feeling it that day or you're injured, um, very able to adapt. Yep. Um, they have a class for 55 and older, and they'll, you know, work out, and then some of them work out with us now because they've gotten themselves [01:10:00] so healthy.
Ally Brettnacher: That's awesome.
Jeanette Ray: Which is so cool to have, like- Just like Sweat House, the whole, you know, there's no, um... Like, we're all one.
Ally Brettnacher: Okay.
Jeanette Ray: You know? There's no... I don't see age or, you know, you don't see, uh, that often. You're like all
Ally Brettnacher: on the even, like you're on the same playing field- Yeah, yeah ... kind of a deal.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah, and so I feel, I mean, that's exactly what I want-
Ally Brettnacher: Mm-hmm
Jeanette Ray: and what I, um, inspire everything to be, like Sweat House related. It's not for one person. Day One isn't just for one person, it's for everyone. Yeah, yeah. Um, but yeah, so Day One Baddies, um- That's awesome ... we usually on a Saturday that we all work out together go get coffee afterwards. Mm. Or, um, we're actually, uh, Jen, my girlfriend, she's gonna have her 500th class here coming up.
Ally Brettnacher: Geez, that's exciting.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Talk about milestone.
Jeanette Ray: Right?
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: 500, and so we're gonna do dinner afterwards. The Baddies are gonna be there, and so
Ally Brettnacher: yeah. Yeah. Wow. [01:11:00] Yeah. Well, and I guess I didn't even ask you the question, fin- next finish line or milestone. I just said, "Oh, well, we know about your Hyrox." So anybody who doesn't listen to this podcast, that's what I usually ask, your next finish line or milestone.
Um, and then your other milestone is Bottleworks.
Jeanette Ray: Yes.
Ally Brettnacher: It's huge.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. September.
Ally Brettnacher: Wow, so exciting.
Jeanette Ray: I wanna say the day, but I can't.
Ally Brettnacher: Yeah.
Jeanette Ray: Um, 'cause I have it in my head, and, um, also I just can't. That's why I
Ally Brettnacher: feel like it's gotta be, like, hard 'cause what if, like, there's, like, little things. Yeah. I'm sure there's so many things to button up-
Jeanette Ray: Yeah
Ally Brettnacher: um, before.
Jeanette Ray: I, I mean, definitely Friday when, uh, the saunas get delivered, that will be check one of being able- Big check ... to release the- Yeah ... the date. Um, so yeah. Yeah. And then the plunge is the next week, so.
Ally Brettnacher: Really exciting.
Jeanette Ray: Slowly coming together.
Ally Brettnacher: Awesome.
Jeanette Ray: Very excited. It will be number three, but it is within walking distance to my house, so.
Ally Brettnacher: Oh, boy. It's- That's huge.
Jeanette Ray: Yeah. Yeah. They're all my babies, but this is- This one is like s- ... gonna be a little special ...
Ally Brettnacher: super, yeah, special baby.
Jeanette Ray: [01:12:00] Yeah.
Ally Brettnacher: Awesome. Well, congratulations in advance.
Jeanette Ray: Thank you.
Ally Brettnacher: Thanks so much for doing this. Thank you
Jeanette Ray: for having me.
Ally Brettnacher: This was so much fun. Yeah, absolutely.
Jeanette Ray: I thank Instagram and, Mini
Ally Brettnacher: for- Yeah.
Thank you, Min- ... connecting
Jeanette Ray: us.
Ally Brettnacher: Thank you so much. Oh, thank goodness. All right, well, happy running, everybody. Hey, thanks for listening. If you loved this episode, share, rate, review, go visit Sweat House, show them some love, and I'll be back again next Friday. So send me a DM, email, anything. I would love to hear your feedback. right, thanks. Bye.
